In defense of Laurence Tribe Esq.

Recently Professor Laurence Tribe was criticized by a New York Times columnist, Linda Greenhouse. Tribe had written a private letter to President Obama urging him not to appoint Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court, because she is “not as smart as she seems to think she is.”’

His letter was leaked to a conservative think-tank which then published it on their website. Tribe had done nothing but offer philosophy so why does Greenhouse, the supposed liberal champion, join her conservative brethren in scrutinizing Tribe? The answer is the ultimate moral vacuum of many academics and journalists. The Yale professor is not principally interested in resolving any major issues, for she epitomizes much of the arid scholasticism of many academics.

Sometimes, a lie is repeated so many times that even Greenhouse comes to think that she is a liberal. Greenhouse who thinks Sandra Day O’Connor -who voted for George W. Bush on the Bush v. Gore is a great Justice.

The problem with Greenhouse like many “professional professors” is the apathy toward real social issues. She mockingly writes about Tribe “Memo to self: Remember always to speak generously about others when sending the president a letter — which, even if not leaked by your enemies in close to real time, is bound to end up eventually in a presidential library.” So by her logic we should not speak our mind for the sake of political expediency because someday, someone might find out what we thought.

Never to speak ill of others even if they voted for Bush and send a country down the drains. What “generosity,” what truth and for what purpose? A “professional professor” would never make a controversial stance. They are so uncontroversial, unbiased and objective that they unknowingly sacrifice the truth. There are few people with the wisdom and knowledge of Laurence Tribe Left in this world. If they deny the president their candid opinion, what kind of the world will we live in?

To be so politically correct to become numb, irrelevant and alienated from the entire social structure is the ultimate destiny of many in our society. That is the ultimate destiny of Linda Greenhouse and people like her if they do not wake up.

Admiral Rickover to President Bullshit
Admiral Rickover never had much political judgment, but he understood the relationships among the Congress, defense contractors, and the Department of Defense as well as anyone. His long and distinguished career ended abruptly: in late 1981,Rickover's wife heard on the radio that President Reagan had retired the admiral, who was on a new submarine conducting sea trials, and she had to give him the news. "several weeks later, he was invited to the oval office and decided to don his full dress uniform.
He told me that he refused to take a seat, listened to the president ask him to be his special nuclear advisor, replied “Mr. President, that is bullshit,” and then walked out.

Lawyers

two men on a balloon expedition who became hopelessly lost in a storm. When the storm cleared, they found themselves floating above a one-lane road, with nothing in sight but wheat fields. There was no one, absolutely no one, around. Finally, they spotted a woman walking down the road.

[Calling down] "Hey!" they called out. "W-h-e-r-e a-r-e w-e?"
To which the woman responded [calling up]:
"You're up in a balloon, about twenty-five feet off the ground."
"She's a lawyer," one man commented to the other.
"How do you know?" companion asked.
"Well," he responded, "her answer was clear, precise, perfectly accurate and totally useless."
